Rodney Hinds is the Sports & Features Editor for The Voice Newspaper. In 1999 he was co-author of a book called ‘Black Pearls - An A-Z of Black Footballers in the English Game’. His contribution to sports journalism was recognised when he won the Black Plus+ ‘Best Print Journalist’ and Victoria Mutual ‘Services to Cricket’ awards. He regularly acts as sports analyst for BBC TV and radio.
Rodney launched his television career on BBC Breakfast Time. He has also contributed and appeared on various sporting documentaries (Black Flash – A Century of Black footballers in Britain (BBC3), Daley Thompson (BBC2) and Mike Tyson (C4)). He has appeared on Sky Sports and Soccer Sunday (LWT) and was the sports pundit for CBBC TV Xchange children's programme.
Rodney's radio career has included regular stints on Radio Five Live, Talksport, BBC 1Xtra, BBC London 94.9, FM Choice FM and Radio Leicester, BBC Birmingham and BBC Three Counties Radio in Luton.
Rodney is a member of the Sports, Football and the British athletics writers associations. He is also an associate member of the Cricket Writers Club.
As a respected sports journalist he has written numerous articles for various publications and interviewed many sporting personalities including Thierry Henry, Viv Richards, Gail Devers, Sir Garfield Sobers, Chris Eubank and Daley Thompson amongst others.
In recent times Rodney has penned his second book ‘Black Lions – The Story of Black Footballers in England.’
He also had his own show ‘Sporting Hindsight’ on Colourful Radio every Saturday evening.
In 2006 he covered the football World Cup in Germany as Trinidad & Tobago’s Soca Warriors made their debut and in March-April 2007 he covered the cricket World Cup in the Caribbean.
Rodney has covered West Indies tours to England, Wimbledon, the rise and rise of Formula 1 rookie Lewis Hamilton, athletics world championships and grand prix, the Derby, international football at Wembley, Champions League finals, FA Cup finals and world championship boxing.
Away from his writing, Hinds was the first role model for the East Enders Academy, an organization which takes inspirational men in to schools in order to boost the aspiration of young people.
Additionally, Rodney heads Lupus Legacy, a group of people who look to raise awareness and funds for those living with lupus.
Rodney’s contribution to the African-Caribbean community was recognized when he was made a Role Model & Community Champion for Building United Communities (BUC) initiative.
Rodney will be back on the airwaves imminently when he hosts his own radio chat show on Life FM.
